From Short Story to Short Film: Keeping the Lights On & the Coffee Full
Stories often find their own path.
Originally written as a short story for the 48hr film contest, Keeping the Lights On & the Coffee Full has now been adapted into a short film as Theater Genesis' entry into this year's 48 Hour Film Project.
The story follows a struggling husband and wife whose failing business, mysterious clues, and one suspiciously clean coffee maker lead to a misunderstanding that quickly spirals out of control. Blending humor with heartfelt moments, the story explores communication, family, and the importance of facing life's challenges together.
Once the competition concludes, the original short story will become available to read through the Celestial Library, where readers can experience the expanded version of the tale—including scenes and surprises that couldn't fit into a six-minute film.
The completed short film will also be available to watch on the Theater Genesis YouTube channel after the competition's screening period has ended.
